When Will I Receive My First Aid and CPR Certificate?

Whichever level of First Aid and CPR training you need, on completing the course, you earn a Canadian Red Cross approved certificate. The skills and life-saving techniques you learn are invaluable, whether part of a work requirement or just to help others. When training at Coast2Coast, your First Aid certification is valid for three years.

First Aid & CPR Course and Certification

To receive a First Aid certificate, you have to complete all the components of the First Aid course. The only things that change between the different First Aid Levels are the time it takes to complete the course, and some differences in the course content.

Both Emergency and Standard First Aid include CPR/AED training to ensure that you have the skills to recognize and respond to a range of medical and environmental emergencies. Depending on the level, these include circulation and breathing emergencies, heart attack, angina, prevention of disease transmission, head and spinal injuries, and life-threatening bleeding, both internal and external.

Participants learn about their role as First Aiders, the chain of survival, recovery position for patients, and providing the proper care. Most importantly, they learn the critical skills of Check, Call, and Care.

Each First Aid course includes two levels of CPR training. Level A teaches adult CPR only, whereas Level C also teaches CPR for children and infants. Participants in all levels learn how to carry out compression-only CPR.

Requirements to Receive Your Certificate

The requirements for receiving your certificate entail completing 100% of the teaching time according to your course level. After that, you must pass the multiple-choice knowledge test based on all the work taught during the course.

The training components for First Aid differ according to the level of First Aid required.

Emergency First Aid & CPR/AED

Whether you need Emergency First Aid for your workplace or as a way to help others around you, the course is a maximum of eight hours. You have an option of completing the All-in-class Training or the Online Blended Training.

All-in-Class training requires 6.5 hours for Level A and 8 hours for Level C. Online Blended training requires 3-4 hours online (can be completed in your own time) for both Levels A and C, and then you need to complete 3.5 hours or 5.5 hours respectively for the in-class section of the training.

Standard First Aid and CPR/AED

The training components for Standard First Aid are more demanding since health professionals require this training. It is also a WSIB required course for some workplaces. Once again, there are two levels and two options for each level.

All In-Class training takes two days, and you need 13 hours for Level A and 16 hours for Level C. The option of the Online Blended training requires 7-8 hours to complete the online section for both levels. The in-class section of Standard First Aid & CPR/AED takes 5.5 hours for Level A and 8 hours for Level C.

The in-class section of all courses provides vital hands-on training from highly-qualified Canadian Red Cross instructors to ensure you know all the proper techniques. Practicing with the equipment on hand, you build the confidence required to save lives.

The Online Blended course saves you from the commute hours required to complete this section. It also saves you money and allows you to access the course from the digital means you prefer at your own pace and time.

When will you receive your certificate?

As soon as you complete the course and pass the multiple-choice knowledge exam with Coast2Coast, you will receive your certificate within 5-10 business days. First Aid certificates are valid for three years, after which you can either recertify or retake the complete training. Recertification and retraining are vital because they maintain your confidence levels and teach you any new developments in First Aid.
