Frequently Asked Questions
There are two levels of First Aid and CPR/AED training courses available in Markham. These include: Emergency First Aid & CPR/AED Level C and Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C. Both of these courses teach amazing life-saving skills, but one is more in-depth than the other.
While registering for a course, it is important to know which one you need based on work or school requirements. Specific jobs/school programs require a certain level of training.
Emergency First Aid & CPR/AED Level C is a basic level of first aid and CPR/AED training. This course will cover everything from CPR to wound care. Ideally, those who work as security guards or personal support workers (PSW) require this training.
Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C is a more advanced training course which is what we typically recommend students take. This level covers all course material from Emergency First Aid & CPR/AED Level C, but also includes topics such as environmental illness, poisons and more. You require this training if you are a daycare worker or nurse.
In short, yes. In April 2019, the Canadian Red Cross upgraded CPR-HCP training to Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP). In order to keep healthcare professionals up-to-date with their life-saving skills in the city of Markham, the new Basic Life Support training course is now a four hour training which covers topics in more depth.
Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP) training teaches students intense life-saving skills such as high-performance CPR, trauma, opioid overdose and more. Students will also learn how to work in a fast-paced environment, such as a hospital, and how to work as a team.
Students are required to renew this certificate annually, as it is only valid for one year. This was implemented to keep healthcare professionals aware and responsible when it comes to saving lives. Those who require Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP) training include, but are not limited to, nurses, first responder, dental professionals and more.
For your convenience, Coast2Coast provides training in morning and evening sessions. We understand healthcare professionals have busy schedules, which is why we make it easy to complete training.
Typically, students who require Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP) training also require Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C training. Prior to April 2019, students were able to complete “Standard First Aid & CPR-HCP” in one course. Now, students must register for two separate courses.
Occasionally, there are days where Coast2Coast hosts the Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C course during the day (9AM-5PM), then provides the Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP) training that same evening (6PM-10PM). This is not always guaranteed, though, as schedules vary week to week. Oftentimes, students will need to attend more than one day to complete both courses if they wish to receive WSIB approved Canadian Red Cross certificates.
These two courses will have some overlap in course material, but it will increase the confidence of the person completing the training as they will have more hands-on experience. Understanding these life-saving skills is important as a healthcare professional.
Private/Group First Aid and CPR/AED training is the preferred method to teach multiple people life-saving skills at once. Typically, employers or school program coordinators will enrol a group of employees or students for a private training.
In order for Coast2Coast to provide private/group First Aid and CPR/AED training for a client, they must meet the minimum number of participants to run a course which is eight.
If you are interested in setting up a private First Aid and CPR/AED training course for your group, please contact us by phone or email to discuss your needs. Once we have you information, we can set up a private training at your location or at one of our training facilities. From there, a certified Canadian Red Cross instructor will teach your course, providing students with amazing life-saving skills.
Not only is a private course easy to set up, it also comes with great benefits such as discounted pricing, choice of course date and location as well as easy course management.
If you have ever taken a First Aid and CPR/AED training course, then you may know that there are also Recertification courses. Recertification courses provide students who have previously taken a training a refresher on their life-saving skills. These courses are meant to remind students how to provide CPR, use an AED, bandage wounds and more.
Recertification courses may be registered for at a cheaper price than our full training courses in Markham. Students can expect to spend roughly half as much time in the classroom than they did for their full training course, making it convenient to attend.
If you are looking to recertify your current certificate, please be sure to meet all necessary requirements. You must have a valid (not expired) Canadian Red Cross certificate. If you wish to recertify CPR/AED Level C, you may have a current certificate from a full course or Recertification course. Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C requires a certificate from a full course only.
nyone can register for a WSIB approved Online Blended First Aid and CPR/AED training course. Typically, we recommend this course format to those who have busy schedules and understand how to use computers/technology.
If you struggle with technology, you can still complete the Online Blended format of a First Aid and CPR/AED training course, but it may be a little more challenging.
Online Blended training gives students the opportunity to learn the theory and knowledge at their own pace. This training format is divided into an online component and an in-class session. The online component contains the theory and can be completed in the student’s own time, as long as it is complete prior to their in-class date.
After completing the online component, students will attend an in-class session to practice hands-on life-saving skills such as CPR, AED, bandaging and more. Learn from one of our highly experienced Canadian Red Cross instructors and gain the confidence you need to save a life.
