The Importance Of CPR and First Aid Training
Often, our students take our training courses for one simple reason: to save someone’s life when an emergency occurs. Though we wish emergencies never occur, there are other good reasons for getting yourself certified at our Mississauga facility:
- Become invaluable with your life-saving skill
- Become confident wherever you are
- Pass on your wisdom by training others
Become invaluable wherever you go:
Whether you are at the beach, in a forest, or working at your job, being skilled at CPR and first aid makes you an invaluable individual to have handy nearby in the event of a serious accident or emergency.
You can be more confident wherever you are:
Danger is never too far away. Cardiac arrests can occur in private at home or in the public at work. Injuries can also occur, and the CPR training skills and the ability to step up during tough times make you a more confident individual.
Train others in the life-saving skill:
What better way to make use of your certified skill than by training others who are also interested in learning. Our goal at Coast2Coast is to teach others how to perform CPR and first aid effectively under pressure, and you can do the same!
Frequently Asked Questions
The Online Blended First Aid and CPR/AED learning format is a WSIB approved program which provides students a Canadian Red Cross certificate, valid for three years. This course is half online and half in-class at our Mississauga facility, making it easy to complete your training (even for those with busy schedules).
First, you must complete an online component which will contain the theory portion of your course. Read through text, watch videos and complete games and quizzes at your own pace. The online component is flexible, and only requires students to complete it prior to their in-class portion.
Students will then attend the in-class session with one of our highly skilled Canadian Red Cross instructors. Practice a variety of hands-on skills such as CPR, bandaging, splints and more. Our goal is to provide you with the life-saving skills necessary to save a life. Accidents happen on a daily basis; it is important to stay prepared!
At Coast2Coast, we provide two different First Aid and CPR/AED training courses at our Mississauga facility. Each course covers a wide range of life-saving skills, important for many different workplace roles or just for your own personal knowledge.
Emergency First Aid & CPR/AED Level C is a basic First Aid training course which teaches students how to perform CPR, use an AED, assist a victim of choking, how to provide wound care and so much more! It is a great course for beginners or for those in security guard or personal support worker roles.
Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C is a more advanced level of training which includes a vast amount of topics ranging from CPR and AED skills to first aid skills such as bone, joint and muscle injuries, environmental emergencies, poisons and more. This course covers the same material as the Emergency First Aid & CPR/AED Level C course, but includes additional topics.
Completing either course will provide students with a WSIB approved Certificate, valid for three years.
Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP) used to be known as CPR-HCP. This course was dedicated to healthcare professionals prior to April 2019. As of then, CPR-HCP has been upgraded to Basic Life Support, a course which goes more in-depth with training topics, designed to make healthcare professionals feel more confident in their life-saving skills.
At our Mississauga facility, Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP) is a four hour training course which teaches students how to response to cardiovascular emergencies. Practice scenarios such as high-performance CPR, how to work as a team in a fast-paced environment and more. Students will also practice handling trauma, opioid overdose and a variety of other topics they may encounter on the job.
The Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP) certificate is valid for one year, requiring students to recertify annually. This is important because it keeps healthcare professionals up-to-date with life-saving techniques which are important in their field of work as nurses, first responders and more.
After three years, First Aid and CPR/AED certificates from the Canadian Red Cross expire. Prior to their expiration, it is important to recertify your current certificate, that way it stays up-to-date. With Recertification courses, students are able to renew their training in a shorter period of time (and at a lower cost) compared to our full training courses.
In order to enrol, you must meet specific criteria. The criteria varies depending on the level of training you wish to complete. For all courses, though, you must have a valid (not expired) Canadian Red Cross certificate in order to take a Recertification course in Mississauga with Coast2Coast.
CPR/AED Level C may be recertified over and over. This means that you may continuously take a Recertification course again and again. Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C, on the other hand, can only be recertified once. This means you must alternate between a full course and a Recertification course.
Refresh your memory on life-saving skills and learn new techniques since your last training!
The Canadian Red Cross provides two levels of CPR/AED training courses. Coast2Coast offers each of these courses at our Mississauga facility regularly, making it easy to become CPR/AED certified. These levels include: CPR/AED Level A and CPR/AED Level C.
CPR/AED Level A teaches students how to provide CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) on adults only. This level of training will also teach students how to use an AED on an adult and how to assist an adult victim of choking. This is the most basic CPR/AED training course offered at Coast2Coast, providing student’s certification in just half a day.
CPR/AED Level C teaches the same material as CPR/AED Level A, but includes training on children and infants as well. This course is a little more advanced and will provide students with a certificate in a little over half a day. CPR/AED Level C is the more popular course as it teaches students more skills.
If you have a group of eight or more students, you may be eligible to register for a Private/Group First Aid and CPR/AED training course with Coast2Coast. Setting up a private training course is simple and only requires you to speak with one of our private training coordinators.
You will be asked to provide us some information about the group you wish to train such as contact information, the course level you wish to enrol the students in, your preferred location of training, etc. Once we receive all necessary information, we will set up a date (one of your top three choices) and send one of our highly-trained Canadian Red Cross instructors to your location of choice. They will bring all necessary training equipment, requiring your group to simply bring themselves.
Students will learn theory and practice amazing hands-on skills, helping them build confidence in their life-saving skills.
Private training provides clients with outstanding discounts as well! To find out more, please inquire by calling our head office.
