Frequently Asked Questions:
Here are the answers to your most frequently asked questions:
Can BLS be done online?
The Canadian Red Cross does not offer the Basic Life Support training course online because there is no way to assess the hands-on skills required. Doing the class in person, you have the chance to grasp the skills demonstrated, practice them, and ask questions. Once you have completed the course, you receive a WSIB approved training partner.
If you would like to do half of your training online, then you can register for our online blended format that is offered through Heart & Stroke BLS. This training is also WSIB approved.
Since Basic Life Support is a required course for healthcare and first responder roles, make sure you choose the correct BLS in-class course for your job or school requirements.
Our BLS courses are WSIB approved through the Canadian Red Cross or Heart & Stroke. Join us in Mississauga today and get the knowledge and confidence needed to save a life! Scroll up to begin your registration at our Mississauga training facility.
Is BLS the same as CPR level C?
No. CPR Level C and Basic Life Support are similar, but they are different levels of CPR training. CPR Level C is a general course recommended to all Canadians for the vital life-saving skills they can learn.
Basic Life Support is designed to impart specialized knowledge and training about life-saving to all types of healthcare professionals, including first responders, nurses, dentists, sports doctors, etc. Students taking the course learn how to provide CPR and care for patients in hospitals or pre-hospital settings. Every part of the training consists of greater detail.
How long is Basic Life Support training?
The four hours of Basic Life Support training provide students with a valid certificate for one year. There is only one pre-requisite, and that is that the students pass both sections of the course.
Previously, BLS training was called HCP, providing participants with a valid certificate for three years. In April 2019, the government’s decision to upgrade the certificate to an annual Basic Life Support kicked in.
You must pass the Basic Life Support course by proving your hands-on skills and passing the multiple-choice questions. If you fail any of the two sections, your course instructor will explain where you made went wrong and give you a second chance to pass the tests. A second fail attempt means that you must repeat the training by scheduling another appointment with our office.
Tips for getting the best results:
