Frequently Asked Questions:

CPR Level C and Basic Life Support are two separate levels of CPR training. CPR Level C is a general course which can (and should) be taken by all Canadians. Basic Life Support, on the other hand, is specifically designed for healthcare professionals such as first responders, nurses, dentists and more. This course teaches students how to provide CPR and care for patients in a hospital or pre-hospital setting. Each of these courses teaches similar material, but the Basic Life Support training will go into more detail necessary for healthcare providers.

The Canadian Red Cross does not provide the Basic Life Support training course in an online method. Our Heart & Stroke BLS course is offered in an Online Blended format, though. If you wish to complete the BLS course with a WSIB approved training partner, you may register for the Canadian Red Cross or Heart & Stroke training. Basic Life Support is a very important course that needs to be completed by those in first responder roles. Be sure to complete the correct course for your job or school requirements.

Our BLS courses are WSIB approved through the Canadian Red Cross or Heart & Stroke. Join us today and gain the confidence needed to save a life! Scroll up to begin your registration at our North York training facility.

Basic Life Support training will provide students with a certificate that is valid for one year. This training used to be called HCP and was valid for three years, but has been upgraded to Basic Life Support as of April 2019. Since the Basic Life Support course is designed for healthcare professionals, the government decided that it was important for them to renew their life-saving skills on an annual basis.

It is possible to fail the Basic Life Support course. This training requires students to prove their hands-on skills and pass a multiple choice exam. If you happen to fail either part of this training, your instructor will be able to give you advice and provide you with a second chance to pass. If you fail again, you will not receive your certificate and you will need to attend the training again. For those who fail, you will need to contact the office to reschedule your training.

To prevent yourself from failing, please make sure to pay attention in class. You may take notes, read through the free Basic Life Support e-book before your course and ask questions. Our instructors are there to help you.

If you still struggle to complete the course, we recommend you complete a Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C training course in North York first to understand the basics.
