Frequently Asked Questions
At Coast2Coast, we provide two levels of First Aid and CPR/AED training courses in Scarborough. Each of these courses cover various topics designed to teach students valuable life-saving skills. Choosing a course level may be confusing, but we can help you determine what level you should pick.
Emergency First Aid & CPR/AED Level C is our basic First Aid training course. Students can expect to learn many different life-saving skills such as how to perform CPR, use an AED, provide care for wounds and more. Traditionally, training will take students about eight hours to complete. This course is ideal for personal support workers, security guards and more.
Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C training is a more advanced course. This training will include all of the material taught in the Emergency First Aid & CPR/AED Level C course, but also include topics such as poisons, environmental illness and more. We recommend students enrol in the Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C course as it covers the most material. Ideal for daycare workers, nurses and more!
There are two levels of CPR/AED training courses available at Coast2Coast in our Scarborough facility. How do you know which one to choose? Based on your workplace or school requirements, you may need to become certified in a specific level. The two available levels include: CPR/AED Level A or CPR/AED Level C.
CPR/AED Level A training is a basic CPR/AED course that covers CPR, AED and choking for adults only. In addition to these main topics, CPR/AED Level A courses include training on life-threatening bleeding, heart attack, shock and more.
CPR/AED Level C training is an upgrade from CPR/AED Level A. It covers the same material, but also includes CPR, AED and choking for children and infants as well as adults.
It is important to understand these differences while registering for a CPR/AED training course in Scarborough. Enrolling in the incorrect course may require you to complete training more than once.
There are two formats of First Aid and CPR/AED training that you may choose from when registering for a course in Scarborough. One of our most popular formats is the Online Blended training. This format is great for people who have busy schedules and may not be able to dedicate much time in a classroom setting.
The Online Blended format of First Aid and CPR/AED training is split into two sections including: Online and In-Class. The online component takes students anywhere from two to eight hours to complete depending on the course level they have chosen. During the online component, students will watch videos, play games and complete quizzes to learn material. Students must complete the online portion first, then attend an in-class session.
The in-class session will teach students hands-on skills such as CPR, how to use an AED, bandage a wound and more. Learn from our highly-skilled Canadian Red Cross instructors and gain the confidence required to save a life.
If you wish to register for a First Aid and CPR/AED Recertification course in Scarborough, you will have to meet some eligibility requirements first. There are two levels of training that can be recertified; these include: CPR/AED Level C and Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C.
Both of these courses require students to hold a valid (not expired) certificate from the Canadian Red Cross. For CPR/AED Level C Recertification, students may recertify this course over and over, meaning your certificate can be from a Recertification course. If you wish to register for Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C Recertification, your current certificate must be from a full training course only. You cannot recertify a Recertification.
If you do not meet the above criteria, you will need to register for the full training course. If you choose to enrol in a Recertification course and fail to meet the criteria, you will be asked to leave the course without a refund.
As of April 2019, CPR-HCP has been upgraded to Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP). Those who previously enrolled in CPR-HCP will now need to register for Basic Life Support training.
Why was this change made? Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP) was designed to keep healthcare professionals up-to-date with their life-saving skills. It is important for our healthcare professionals to understand the material and proper procedures when handling a patient. With this in mind, the Basic Life Support certificate is only valid for one year, requiring students to renew it annually.
Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP) is now a four hour training course which goes into depth on important life-saving skills such as high-performance CPR, trauma, opioid overdose and more. It also teaches students how to work as a team in a fast-paced environment such as a hospital.
This training is required for specific types of healthcare professionals such as nurses, first responders and more.
